Welcome to TransitRail!
.... a commodity peering service for research and education networks and
.... a consolidated R&E peer for the world's largest Internet content and service providers
TransitRail is a wide-scale commodity peering facility provided jointly by the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) and the Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP).
About TransitRail
TransitRail is a commodity peering program designed to improve network performance and reduce the overall cost of, and reliance on, commodity Internet transit services. TransitRail is designed to be a robust and reliable network focused on serving the commodity demands of research and education networks.
TransitRail is deployed and operated by Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) and the Pacific Northwest GigaPoP (PNWGP). TransitRail uses the transport and services of National LambdaRail, Inc. (NLR INC) for both its backbone infrastructure and subscriber access.
TransitRail is a national instantiation of the hugely successful peering programs already implemented by CENIC and PNWGP on the U.S. West Coast. Through the experience and expertise of these two groups and, in conjunction with national network resources of NLR INC, TransitRail actively engages the nation's and world's most significant IP traffic commercial entities as peers.
